Donald Trump says “I hate Taylor Swift!”
Former President Donald Trump criticized Taylor Swift in a Truth Social post on Sunday, expressing his strong dislike for the pop star after she publicly endorsed his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” Trump declared.
This outburst came less than a week after Swift revealed her intention to vote for Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, in the upcoming election. Her endorsement followed a televised debate between Trump and Harris on September 10 in Philadelphia, where they discussed issues like abortion, immigration, the economy, and foreign policy.
Swift, in an Instagram post, shared her decision: “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she stands for the rights and causes I believe in. I believe we can achieve much more in this country with calm leadership, not chaos.”
She also praised Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, for his long-standing advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive rights, and in vitro fertilization.
In a playful nod to past criticisms from Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, who had once mocked “childless cat ladies” in 2021, Swift humorously signed off her post as “Childless Cat Lady,” sharing a picture of herself with her cat.
Swift also addressed Trump’s sharing of AI-generated images on Truth Social, which falsely implied her support for him. The manipulated images depicted women in “Swifties for Trump” shirts, and even claimed her fans were flocking to Trump after some of her concerts in Vienna were canceled due to security concerns.
“I accept!” Trump responded to the fake images.
Swift noted that the incident highlighted her concerns about the misuse of AI and the spread of misinformation, adding, “It made me realize the importance of being clear about my voting plans to counter false narratives. The truth is the best weapon against disinformation.”
Swift’s endorsement had an immediate impact, reportedly leading 405,999 users to visit vote.gov within 24 hours of her post.
The Harris-Walz campaign humorously responded to Trump’s post with a statement titled “Trump’s Bad Week (Taylor’s Version),” referencing 28 of Swift’s songs.
“We think it’s Safe (& Sound) to say Donald Trump’s week has him feeling Down Bad,” the statement read. “Mr. Not-at-all Fine has spent this week sulking, talking about his Champagne Problems, and addressing none of the real issues facing the American people.”
The campaign used Swift song titles to mock Trump further, adding, “Call it What You Want, but it’s Nothing New for the Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.”
