New York Magazine’s political correspondent Olivia Nuzzi has been placed on leave after revealing a “personal relationship” with a former subject relevant to the 2024 presidential campaign. According to Oliver Darcy’s Status newsletter, this individual is reportedly Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and the relationship is said to have begun following Nuzzi’s profile of Kennedy in November 2023.
In a statement, New York Magazine addressed the matter: “Recently, our Washington Correspondent Olivia Nuzzi acknowledged that she had engaged in a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign, violating the magazine’s standards on conflicts of interest.” The publication noted that Nuzzi’s work displayed no inaccuracies or bias, but they are conducting an internal review and have enlisted a third-party investigator to ensure transparency.
Nuzzi, speaking through CNN reporter Brian Stelter, clarified that the relationship “was never physical” but admitted she should have disclosed it sooner to avoid any appearance of conflict of interest. “I deeply regret not doing so immediately and apologize to my colleagues,” she stated.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has been married to actor Cheryl Hines since 2014, denied any significant relationship with Nuzzi through a representative, asserting that they had only met once for an interview.
